This was a painting created in honour of my mother who died of Multiple Sclerosis. The painting was an expression of the grief I felt after her death. At first I wanted to do her portrait but having no recent photos of her that didn’t feel exploitative of her dignity, I decided feathers would be how I would symbolise her. Feathers became an important symbol of my mother to my family after her passing. When she was in her last days all of us who would be with her at the end found one little white feather. Then on the night she died her partner went outside were it had been snowing and found three pristine white feathers settled on the snow and we all felt it was her talking to us. It was probably the grief making us search for her in these things, but in the following months we kept finding feathers and saw her in them. This developed and inspired the idea of showing myself surrounded by feathers to honour her.
